Having kept up with this thread so far I have a few observations. I may get called a “new guy” or some other thing as I’ve only been here for a little over a year but I’ll say my piece anyway.

1 - all yall “OG’s” with your attitudes of “we started this place and yall just plain ‘don’t know’” is a very toxic thing in a few ways. I’m not bashing the thought of seniority in any way but the way it’s comes across on OPE is it gives the air of “we’re better than you so go pound sand”. That’s great if you don’t want the member base to grow and the site to be more active. New members bring different stuff into the mix. You may not like that and that’s fine. FYI I’m a looooooong way from a let’s all just get along kind of guy. Im more in the camp of singing in the shower while trying not to get caught sneaking a peak but that’s neither here nor there. If you “OG’s” want this site to grow and stay alive you need to cut back on the “I was here first” stuff.

2 - like I said earlier, no one but the buyer and seller should or need to be involved with the sales process. One of the sites I mod’d we required a he equivalent of the “GoldMember” badge on here to post in the for sale section as well as in some of the off topic areas where it was more self moderation than staff moderation. If things got out of hand we’d step in but that was rare. When things circled around illegal things was about the only time the mods stepped in on those threads.

3 - everyone has a different definition of what “drama” is and none of them belong in the info threads. No one needs to post anything that isn’t directly related to the topic. A side conversation about buttering my bread in a thread about how to rebuild a carb may seem fun at the time but for anyone looking to join the site because of the information the find it’s quite off putting. I’d suggest keeping that stuff behind the “GoldMember” areas.

4 - I will also echo the gay/homo stuff is a big rampant. Saying it can’t be stopped because that’s how it’s always been is an excuse that is invalid in my opinion. Is the goal is truly to grow the site and keep it alive and active or just be a hang out spot for a few guys to blow off steam ? It can be both but needs to be structured in such a way that you know when you’re gonna walk into those areas and can avoid them if you want to.

5 - All that being said, this is the internet folks. There have been a few loud keyboard thumpers in this thread that just have to have the last word or like causing drama for no reason and that’s okay. Don’t sink to their level and add pages to a thread that do nothing but make you both look like kindergarteners. Arguing with someone online is almost never productive.

6 - Calling someone out isn’t a bad thing either but it belongs in a feedback thread about buying/selling or in the thread the transaction started in. Post up the issues and why it did or didn’t go the way you expected and move on. You run the risk of getting burnt in every single transaction you ever make online.

7 - I strongly agree with a site leadership team that has zero things financial to gain from their role. That being said, a builder/porter as a staff member brings some legitimacy to the site.

I'm only explaining this one more time and then I swear to Christ I'm done.

This isn't about older members thinking they have any type of "seniority" over new members or thinking they own the lay of the land and newcomers aren't welcome, of course they are welcome.

It's about people throwing their 2 cents in about things they have no fukking idea about and not knowing the back story about how certain things have landed where they have, there is really nothing else to it.

I guess I’m poking the bear at this point and I’m okay with that ….

When anyone is given an aggressive response from a senior member of the forum it only takes one click to close out and never come back. Again, I’m not a “let’s all get along” type and this paragraph really contradicts that but I’m fine with that. Less aggressive things will keep more people here. I’m fine with the weaklings/whiners going elsewhere but when you senior guys give responses like yours it’s very discouraging to newer members that don’t know the 158 different backstories required to survive here.

How is one to know the back story if they don’t chime in and ask ? This type of forum doesn’t generally attract the type of active members that sit in the corner and hope to figure it out one day. Lots of alpha males on OPE which isn’t a bad thing at all but it creates quite a few opportunities for people to be confused so they ask questions and get a response like so many and never come back. I don’t think that’s the intention but it seems like it is.

The name of this thread is “So where do we go from here, folks“.
There were members making suggestions that had no idea of the most recent happenings. Where do you feel the line should be drawn? Should they have knowledge of the most recent event? The most recent 2 events? Seems implicit that he’s asking members who have watched the cycle of events on this forum and others preceding it so we can try our best for that not to happen again. It has nothing to do with what you are implying as arrogance.

@Hinerman

What do you think about all these cowgirls and saw thniffers letting it fly ?

Maybe I should be a moderator to help these girls settle their differences.
I seriously have no idea what is going on. I voted for you to be a moderator last time we voted, however we lost the election. But we lost with pride and didn't get our panties in a wad. Isn't that what adults are supposed to do?

If you don't know the backstory, that is fine, but this thread isn't for you then.

we need people to act like adults and take care of problems in a mature and responsible way.
YES! What he said. I don't even know what happened over the weekend that led to this post, this is all news to me.

I think we should calm down a bit, if newer members are not allowed to ask about what happened and the history behind it, we have completely failed.

I myself don't know 1/1000th of it, fortunately.

We won that election in a Landslide.

Asking is one thing.

Taking sides and acting like you know what went down and with who is another thing.

Howdy fellas - been a while since I’ve been active here. I was very involved for the last several years until about 8 months ago. Management at that time had crossed a few of the “regulars”, me included. So I left.

That being said, if this place can straighten out, it would be easier to return to being an active member. Will I? TBD…
Would love your regular input

If it wouldn't be for GTG's and face to face meetings I have had, I would have been so fukcing done with this place ages ago. There are about a dozen or so imbeciles in here that think their snarky, sarcastic posts are somehow cute or witty. It's all just noise and only people obsessed with saws (like myself) stick around to wade through the bullsh1t. As far as what flamed this whole thing into what might just be oblivion, it's offer, acceptance, delivery. Common as dirt and not hard rules to play by.

I've been reading along and I agree with what the older guys are saying about new guys staying out. The only way to move forward in the future is to know what happened in the past. Us new guys don't know what happened. We need to stay out of this. Thank you @Woodpecker for calling me out when I was talking about stuff I didn't know anything about.

YES! What he said. I don't even know what happened over the weekend that led to this post, this is all news to me.
Voices were raised, names were called, tears were shed. Dramatic exits were observed. More names were called. A few hundred pairs of panties were bunched.

Meanwhile, the vast majority of human beings lived their lives as before. Stock prices of outdoor power equipment companies didn't even quiver.
