30 498lb calves for $3.40/lb. Good grief. The barn doesn’t make money if it’s empty BUT it also doesn’t loose money if it’s empty. Things are getting a bit spooky with the price of feeders lately. Top price of the day at the sales barn was $4.55/lb for 345lb Holstein steers. That’s insane.

The price of beef at the sale barn is spooky. I'll take it while we have it. But, there's no way it can be sustainable.

I got $1.92/lb for 10 fats that averaged 1595lbs a few weeks ago. It was right at $2950/hd after trucking and checkoff. I paid $866 for them as feeders 13 months ago and stuck roughly $850 into them. I think we’re on the hump of where things are going to go from making money to flatlining and going red real soon. No way anyone should make $1200/hd on a Holstein steer. I do my cash flow stuff at $125/hd average profit and that’s even a bit aggressive historically.

@Mastermind - send em in !! Breeding age beefers were bringing close to $2k each today. Just bonkers.
