I have zero Dolmar dealers around here that keep anything in stock. Are these clamshells? I dont have any IPL's for Dolmar.

I looked on their website and it looks like they are about a pound heavier. I know after adding a bar, chain, oil and gas it'll be closer to 13-14#...

I love Echo, for buying a new saw I would prefer buying Echo over anything else. But from what I see everything Echo has to offer in the small CC range is a clamshell.

To heavy. I had one and I am afraid its a little to much for him.

ECHO CS-400
ECHO CS-450P

I’d still Look hard @ the ECHO CS-501P @ 10.6lbs.

The 242 Husky and 450 Echo could be winners for Him. I say this as an unabashed Husky and Dolmar fan: a ported 241 will make anyone smile. I've run the one that Brad first built and it's a dynamite little saw. I could get used to it easily if it wasn't so hard to justify a 9th expensive saw. Pound for pound, a ported 241 running either 3/8lp or .325" chain (I experienced the latter) is a pretty amazing little saw which willl do a lot of work without undue wear and tear on the operator. Pretty miserly on the fuel too.

Get Josh to build you a shindaiwa 377.
My dad cuts all his wood with a 352s. He's not on any Chainsaw forums so he doesn't know it's under powered or not worth his time:)

I went on this same quest myself several years ago. The 377 was the best built saw I looked at. However, it fell way behind others in performance.

The 377 is a very well built saw, professionally built all the way.

My son 13, loves his 421, easiest starting saw I have found, husqvarna 543xp is not made by husqvarna, I dnt consider them pro grade saws, local tree service here bought 4 of them, they are all not running with little run time. The 421 is not clam shell design.

Ross , the Echo 50cc saws or the 421 would be my choice for your Grandad , the easy starting 421 that a child can start if he has issues with that tho I don't find the Echo hard to start but for seniors it's different . I own both BTW , Echo has a bit more grunt , 421 not far behind and a muffler mod wakes both up pretty good . Guys , I don't think a senior should have a ported saw screaming high RPM , think about it o_O
Hope you're keeping well .
