I tested RSL against RSLH in Red Oak, and the full comp was noticeably faster than the half skip. Cut time went from aobut 15 to 13 second (with the 044). The 044 now runs full comp.

A local tree guy runs full skip 20" on all of his 460s, + 461s. When I discussed it with him, he stated he routinely hits too much metal to be messing with full comp. OK, that made sense to me.

I have not hit any metal in a long time (fingers crossed). but I have seen it in trees I have cut. Sometimes by luck, and sometimes by spotting it, I have avoided it for a while now.

I use all sorts of chains and don't really give it much thought. If they're sharp they all cut wood. Being I'm mostly doing tree work, the actual time running the saw is a very minor time element of a job. Whether a cut takes 15 seconds or 13 seconds really is unimportant to me. I can spend several hours on a tree removal and maybe only burn through a quart of gas. As far as skip getting dull faster than full comp, I haven't noticed that myself but as stated, I don't pay that much attention. If the chain's dull I sharpen it. This thread is interesting though.

When your bucking logs for firewood, it is nice to either have more firewood at the end of the day, or to end you day a little earlier, and a 10-15% difference will be noticeable.

As you state, for tree removal, the skill of the operator is the most important factor.

Ok I've heard this from a LOT of people about how less filing on a skip chain which I can agree with but I can't help but think about the logic. Guys come in "I only want skip so I don't file as much!" Each cutter is going to cut 'x' amount of wood. If you run skip obviously its going to have less cutters so yes in theory it does take less time to file.

Ok this is where my thinking has taken me (scary I know) but if you are running skip vs full in my theory wouldn't you be filing more often so in theory you will spend the same amount of time filing for the overall span of a work day?

Let's hear it...
Skip, skip, skip.
I need some .325 skip in .050 or .063.
If anyone has any.

That's 20jpx.
Not what I'm wanting. I have a tad bit of .058 .325 skip.
But would like to find it in .050 or .063.
Like the Oregon 72jgx but in .325
They make it in .325 also. Carlton does as well. I believe you'll likely only find it in .050

I have the .325 Oregon skip.
I'm looking for the nos Carlton.
It's not the same as the Oregon. Don't get me wrong, the Oregon 20jpx is fast, but I'm wanting to try something.
Loggerchain has great prices, but

How much you lookin for. I found a 100ft roll of the Carlton on a quick google search. Seemed high. My opinion .325 in skip isn't likely gonna be really fast. I'm certainly not sure of that Just kinda wondering why skip in .325 in the first place.
