Here's a ATV plastics resto video that I have saved in my bookmarks. I've been meaning to try it on some 026 covers, but other things always seem more important so I haven't done it yet. This video uses a 60/40 mix of paint thinner and boiled linseed oil.

I've used Ovatrol Polytrol once, and it didn't provide me with any good results, even many in Norway claim it really are the one to use I was dissapointed.

WD 40 or Prolong is defently the chemicals who have brought some of the shine back on my plastic.

I'll see if I get the chance to speak with one paint instructor who work for Jotun, at least they have lots of different thinners, key is just to find something who doesn't fade the plastic.

I have saved this top cover for testing lol

I've used 1000 grit paper to remove oxidation, followed by mothers polishing compound, then the last step is mother billet polish. I use the polish with a drill and the little bit of heat it generates helps bring the shine back. Doesn't make it look new, just makes it look a lot better.

Having worked on lots of old, beaten down MX bikes over the years, we usually wet sand starting with 320-400 and working to 1000. Stuff with heavy oxidation gets scraped with a razor blade down the the proper color, then sanded. If you want to bring the gloss back, thats when the chemicals are needed...but if you are just concerned with a smooth finish in the proper color, its all in the elbow grease.

I have tried the plastic restore kits ,they look good till you spray cleaners on the saw then the restore coating comes off

The last couple i had with faded plastics i soaked with red bar oil ,several applications ,it remoisturized the plastic and brought color back ,here is a 441 cleaned up with simple bar oil that had a white chalk look to it .ms441 003.JPG ms441 002.JPG mobil 1 oil 002.JPG mobil 1 oil 003.JPG

So some plastic 'restorers' remove the dull, white, chalky stuff (polish it off with fine abrasive), and some just coat it?

I personally tried the pc plastic renew in the rh box of the 3 posted ,you sand off the dull till get colored plastic ,then wipe their coating that looks like armor all when putting on but dries hard ,first time i sprayed castrol super clean on it it fell off and i had dull sanded plastics ,oil or sanding then putting an automotive clear paint with hardener in it is only good fix i have found so far that holds up ,on a tool the oil does the job and does not look phony like you tried to paint something on the saw .
