Just for the record - you can't clean the "porosity".

Porosity is a result of impurities pulled into the puddle via heat; said impurities can be both surface contamination as a result of improper surface prep or inherent to poor grade metals. It is present in the bead post-weld.

Surface preparation cleans the base metal, preheat insures weld penetration and thermal consistency, shielding gas insures additional impurities are not introduced into the arc or puddle.
