Japan has less stringent emissions laws for many small engines than the US do for two strokes. So you will find cats in some Shindo's and Echos to offset some of their KwH carbon emissions.

BTW, I used an awl much like the one pictured above to open up my 390 muffler. Mine came with my racquet stringer.

Dolmar 6400 pried open Hogged out the outlet and stood the deflector up a bit.
Buzzed out some of the internal cage. 355t the previous owner tried it this way. Kind of strange, but made a good plastic melter.Buzzed out the deflector and added a little pipe to direct the exhaust down and out.

The 361WES, most recent version of the 355, has a similar deflector. I opened up the muffler flush with it, then placed it on top after cutting the bottom of the deflector and bending the hell out of it. WOrks great.

What’s your guys filler of choice? I’ve done most stuff with brass braze, but the muffler on that new 2511 Echo was next to impossible to get anything to stick to!! I was thinking maybe it’s stainless? I see some of you guys with some really sweet, clean, factory looking jobs what’s the secret?

I use 309 filler, it works best when you've got mystery metal.

Cool. Looks like the shape redirects the exhaust to the pipes very efficiently.
