I’m not a complete axe hoe but I’m sorta a plumb fan boy. I’ll pick up used heads here and there never bother mounting them to a stick If I saw a kelly it comes home. You can buy absolute great axes cheap. I don’t know what you paid but the Kelly’s / plumb / plenty of others can bring good money

I bucked a little firewood for a guy, and he gave it to me as I was leaving.

Gransfors Bruk splitting ax.

Do you like the maul or splitting axe better? I guess I never used a splitting axe and have been using a 8 pound maul. It takes a good bit of energy but when it hits....

I don’t use a handheld for all of my splitting but I make sure to do some because it keeps me healthy, mostly mentally. Lol.

Thank you for the info. The Stiletto threw me off a bit.
I dug a bit deeper on that head. From what I read that head might likely be from the 20s to 40s. Stiletto was having them made for them by kelly back then. Outta California. I believe the stiletto is indeed the same company that used to make the titanium hammers w the long handles. So you have a regular ol nice kelly axe head that likely was sold out in Cali. By the tool company stiletto. Cool piece man.

I got all this nonsense just from digging. I personally don’t know much history an stuff. Just had it on my mind. I did find a picture of a double bit with similar stamping. There may even be a date code. I didn’t understand all that but yeah.

I haven't had time to look into it yet. Thank you for looking it up. I guess it makes since that I live in California and found it out here than. It should be some good old steel than. I think I will vinegar soak it to try and preserve it as much as possible.

I do that on some actually have one out there now. Very good steel. I got the vinegar idea from golf wedges. I shoot rusty wedges. It’s a process.

I figure it will be less abrasive then sanding the whole thing like I normally do. How long do you let yours soak for?

Depends how far you wanna go. I’m using a sheet of drywall sanding screen. Soak 20 min pull sand. More or less when I pull em out the sanding is just removing what’s loose. Just 20 ish minutes revealed this unmarked head I have is another plumb. With golf clubs I soak the hard of the club. Or the blade overnight. I’m now sure it would hurt anything to go longer. If you use vinager make sure to dry an oil the crap outta the head. It’ll show surface rust in no time.
