I have a muffler cover with front ports that is letting sawdust fines/dirt in the muffler and its sticking to the oil. Should I be concerned? I dont know if 2 strokes suck stuff in the muffler into the firing chamber or not. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Is there a way to put screen over it? Is it aftermarket, or been modified? Can you post pics?

I used to race 1/5 scale gas rc cars. Certain empty can type mufflers would let sand in the cylinder if it got in the can. Guys running in the beach sand wrecked some engines. Tuned pipes on the cars stopped this.

Put in some screen, spark screen, will help a lot.
Better still, get someone to tig weld up the outlet, bore a new hole,
and put a spout pointing down if possible, and put spark screen in,
spark screen won’t cause much back pressure so no noticeable drop
in power.

I would definitely put screen in it. You can buy it but the square foot. If nothing else, draw around the cover onto the screen and attach it with the 4 muffler screws. It will also keep mud daubers and stink bugs out. I have had more than one stink bug in a saw. They all have screens now.

I had a couple stink bugs in one. I started smelling them about 30 seconds after the saw fired up.

Anyone else ever find mud wasps nests? Ive seen it so often I commonly look for it. More than a few times it was the culprit. What attracts them?
