Sanding the piston crown at the ex and uppers are a good way to to test numbers without the risk of trashing a good cylinder.
Several shops around here port saws by only grinding the piston.
I’ve recently heard that you could hit desired transfer #s by grinding the piston, I’ve never heard of a full port job that way.
Interesting concept.

Is it just me, or does that saw look like it’s throwing an uncanny amount of chips!!?? Very nice!!
Thanks Frank. That's some nice red oak with no knots, so it was smooth cutting. Friend of mine whos into woodworking, likes to get a lot of those cookies.

It’s a great way to test numbers. And will work as a port job, but when it’s time to replace the piston you are back at square one.
Also you may not get the angles you want on the port roofs.
