Machine shop term for good cutting blades. Chips look like 6 or 9 depending on which side of the blade it comes off of

Jeff, what you are describing does not sound like Boxelder. Boxelder is a very soft tree in the Maple family, softer than Silver Maple.

Not sure Mike. This wood is very hard. It has all this red flowery pattern in it.
Someone initially ID'd it as Rosewood a long time ago and then Lone Wolf said it was Box Elder????

I have a few rounds left. But have been burning all of it. Wood was very hard when it was green, and then it dried, and is still very dense.

It was also VERY hard to hand split too. Doesn't seem to have any grain. Just all meaty.

Wood turners like box elder. Looks like it to me. That pattern is sometimes referred to as flame box elder.

The Box Elder I cut was very plain Jane, not at all like that!
