I'd like if someone did a side-by-side chain cutoff. Regular chain and square cut chain in the same piece of wood with the same saw, just switch the chain and time the cuts. To see how much of a difference square cut chain makes. Versus a round file chain.

Done it a few times. Usually 30%

Wow. That's a big difference. I didn't think it would be a third faster.

No and I need it.
There's no dealor anywhere neer me that can help.
I'm going to get it fixed or send it down the road.
I'm tired of messing with it.

I will check after the first of the year to see how much but I can probably get the EL48 and the latest coil, flash them, and send them to you, should just be a bolt on affair then.

Jeff, a lot of factors there. It will depend on how aggressively both chains are sharpened, and the type of wood you are cutting. I think in a recent test by Redbull, he noticed a much larger difference with he tried to cut Oak instead of Maple, likely due to the tough grain.

Using the factory angles for both (RS at 30 degrees and RSL at 45 degrees) I think there is usually a 10-15% advantage for square.

The other thing I like about square is you can use it for anything, regular cutting, ripping, milling, it works well for all of it.

Another reason I don't have or work on homelites.
Instead of removing the engine to get the carb off,why not throw it straight in the trash?

I did not have anything in it. So I did a carb kit, fuel line and filter, and sharpened the chain. Then I got a whopping $60 out of it. I have another one that needs a carb kit but I keep putting it off because of the hassle. I hate to throw something away that is usable.

I'm not a great square filer but I am pretty good at round and my very average square is much faster, smoother and lasts just as long as my round.
If I'm just falling the square lasts longer I think and is 1000 times more smooth.

You can take a very fast square chain and bore with it and it won't kick.

The fallers I've gave a chain to won't use anything else after trying it and learning how to square file is addictive.

I am with you, I like those little Super 2 Homelites though, nice, light, handy saw that truthfully punches above its weight class.

MMWS 10mm 044 with 8 pin rim running 84 dl of still RS round filed by me. I think I hit something in the first cut (yard tree). You can see the saw jump halfway through the cut. Second cut didn't go so well.

Thanks for such a fantastic saw @Mastermind.
