I wonder if lower compression has any correlation with lower fuel consumption? Or vise versa? One thing I noticed about running a ported saw is that they guzzle fuel. Much more than my stock saws. Almost 2 to 1 difference.
I realize that to make more power you need to use more fuel, but just thinking outloud.

I have a few videos of a stock 026. One the way I got it, one with a muffler mod. Both with Walbro WT403A. And one with a new WT194 on it and the muffler mod. Just for reference points. I didn't do anything at all to the chain. Just as I bought the saw. Looked like it was a new bar and chain. 16" .325. .063... Full chisel, 7 pin I think.

Stihl 026 stock with new Walbro WT 194 and muffler mod. Still a little fat. But runs good for a stock saw. These 2 upgrades really woke this saw up.

Thanks al.
Amazing how strong one can be with very little compression or muffler outlet.
Goes against everything I think I know.

Ive tried to tell people that ... all big comp ever meant to me was more wear and hard starting for absolutely nothing.

I had saws that blew 175-180 that smoked ones north of 200...long and short bars.

I knew about 5 years ago this huge compression trend would wear off :)

Yeah. I'm moving away from high compression.

@Jchin 044 let me feel that myself. One of the free-est running saws I've done with only 10 out of the band. 180psi.

There's something to it. Although my 026 hum along nicely at 240 psi.
How well do they run with that high of compression on vp110?

The 066 above turning 10.5k + with a 50" 404 full comp is 170lbs

I believe today's fuel is designed for running lower compression and that's why you'll see better performance.
That's why i ask about whether or not people have tried vp110 when they talk about compression as high as 240 since that is the type of fuel made for that high of comp.
