Sounds like you advanced the timing about .01 off the key on the 681. They can’t handle much advance
I didn't advance it as much as the 7900's. That whole unclocked crankshaft thing was in my mind. It's got about 3/8" of movement at the perimeter of the flywheel. Maybe 6°. The blue one is 10-12°

Mine popped with it just barely advanced. Ran good but drove me nuts

I had it tuned a little bit too rich even with the extra load. I think the blue one was ahead by a couple seconds but it was tuned better too. I bet the solo picks up the difference if it was a hair leaner. 7910 is a brand new cylinder, 681 has a new Caber in it. Both have about 1 tank of fuel on them
