IMO, if you mod the muff and eliminate the carb limiters they run cooler and last longer (and run stronger). I usually add 2 - 1/4" holes on the high right side of the muffler cover to all the ones that come in. Then set the Lo screw 3/4 to 1 turn out and the H at about 1 + 1/8.

I ran it through a couple of heat cycles. Soon as snow melts I'm gunna let her rip!

Mike, it's great you are having a good time messing with you saws, that said, the raft of muffkins that have been assaulted by drill bit bandits is on the rise, due in part surely by your recommendation. These saws end up being sold after the realization sets in that it's just not the hot ticket that was envisioned. The new owner is now on the hook for a new replacement muffkin that can be modded properly without holes poked in it all over the place. Your assistance in decreasing this new phenomenon would be appreciated.

I'm just modding the muff cover … can't cost much to replace … and lot's of em will just stay that way!

I guess each person will just have to choose if it is right for them or not. If I did not think it worked, I would not have done it to my own 462.

I've done this mod for 4 different pros around here, and they all like it. Don't know what else to say.
