Hello band. I should have written my own cheat sheet years ago, we have had so many discussions. But going through saws today, and going to check tunes as well. Seems we always ran 288 xp at 13k, but depending were u look it says 12,500 or some say 1e. Pretty sure mine is 12,800 or 13. And my 395 I thought might have been 13 as well. Its been a few years. And I didn't think I would forget some stuff but I have. I don't run in the conservative tune either. I need all I can get, without putting my saws in danger to lean. Thanks Norm.

this stuff used to be on bills saw shop website and somebody copied it when the site went down. not complete but a good resource.
Thanks man, it's just weird depends where u look. They vary, pretty sure madsens and others said 13k for a 288. And this one You shared looked good, but they listed a 2101xp at 12,500. Never seen that always thought and told 10,500. I wish there was a solid one place to look with the 100 percent right rpms. Saw a place saying 9,300 for a 288

the only 100% right spot i would say is in an owners or service manual. i have a manual that covers most of the 2 and 3 series saws.

You have any manual listing on 2101xp rpm? And says 12,500 on a 288 right? 12,500 on 395?

Thanks yes never seen 2100 listed above 10,500. Must have been a misprint by that saw shop.

Good thread. We should try and compile as much info as we can here. I've seen a lot of variances in the max rpms listed out there as well. I have a copy of that husky list that cus put up that I reference now and then. I also know jonsered puts out a "technical spec" sheet as well, I have to see if I can find one now that I typed that.....

A tach is merely a tool and suggested RPM's are just that, suggested .I know a lot of racers and every one uses their ear instead of a tach .Once reworked commonly called "ported " you change the dynamics of the saw engine .It may run at a faster speed or in the case of a long exhaust slightly slower .

Plain statement of facts .I've got several Stihls that are still 4 stroking and leaving a good plug read at over 2,000 rpm over suggested .One McCulloch that will WOT at over 15,000 RPM and I haven't burned up a one of them .

You will tune them well Norm that I am sure of. Your lucky to have such nice saws to tune and run. 395, 2100 & 288 are performers yet classics! I am about to tune a Poulan micro xxv deluxe top handle with no AV I brought home from my local tip. New lines, carb kit & starter rope and she's a beaut! But no matter how well I tune it, it simply won't have that 288 rich idle burble that makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside.
