That makes muh ears hurt, just looking at it.
Run the same or better with the dp cover off?
To my ear a 550 even with stock muffler. Drives me crazy if I don't have ear plugs in.
I'm sure it has something to do with everyone's individuals ears. And the frequency of that saw.
OEM screen will help a lot.I cant really tell , but im not much of a cut timer either so my opinion is usless there.
I wanna get another dual port cover that isnt opened up and try that...that one that was on there was too much for me...especially with that wide weave screen.
My milling 660 has a can like that ,the stock 10mm exhaust hole ,and a stock solid front cover ,it mills fine still ,lost a little grunt in a 24 inch wide pass but it still chugs along fine ,i will take the power loss over the loud exhaust i had before .That makes muh ears hurt, just looking at it.
So it could be the porting mods making it louder ? Not the design of the saw ? My other saws are ported also ,but do not hurt the ears .

That was Phil!
Believe it or not, Lee's kart saw is louder than Brets ESR 350
I get what your saying about DBs loud is loud.Actually, I don't think so. DBs are DBs, and over time, exposure to DBs above a certain level WILL cause hearing loss. It is cumulative in nature and NOBODY is immune to it. If your ears are ringing after shutting the saw down, and even continues hours later, you are damaging your hearing. Even stock saws and their advertised DB ratings are over the threshold where OSHA requires the use of hearing protection. There is even a point where OSHA requires double hearing protection, plugs and muffs.
It's like shooting firearms. If you do it with no hearing protection, you ARE damaging your hearing. When I was younger I did alot of shooting without hearing protection and now I have tinnitus. It sucks.
Who cares about why one saw might sound more shrill than another. They all will do their measure of damage on unprotected ears.
Use hearing protection. It's that simple.
Not trying to be "Joe Safety" here. Just pointing out that hearing protection is just as much part of your sawing gear as your chaps, hard hat, eye protection, boots, and gloves.
That 101B is something you need experience in real life. Video does nothing for it.The ATC in my avatar pic has an ESR 350 top end... I'm not running an open stinger like that saw, but even with my brain bucket on, it is loud. In fact, after my last ride I'm thinking I should wear earplugs inside my helmet. Ears rang all night after riding for a day on it.![]()
I totally agree with this statement...that kart saw is effing loudThat 101B is something you need experience in real life. Video does nothing for it.
I'm tellin ya.....it's loud.
I grew up at a moto X track, I've heard some loud bikes, 2 stroke & 4 stroke. None of em hold a candle to Lee's kart saw @ WOT.
And a 450F is a pretty loud bike with a PowerCore pipe
.......says the guy with an ESR 350 bike saw!I totally agree with this statement...that kart saw is effing loud
