Wonder if the quad ports have something to do with the tones ? The way the air compresses or something .I can run the 660 and the hybrids for several hours and the noise from those models does not bother me at all with no ear plugs .The tone of the 461 is annoying though .

Open can inside with DP sides. Dad couldnt stand being close to me while cutting. I didnt think it was to bad.

Dull chain :risas3:

I got DQ'ed at a fair race once due to my 084 muffler being to loud. It would make your ears bleed.

I feel the same way about a 372.......I hate the exhaust note.

I didn't think your 066 i just did was to bad but I haven't started a saw in a long time without muffs.

The last saw I ran without earplugs was matts 346,the video above Matt is handing it to me and it is loud.
My 395 is loud but the am cylinder is ported for Jchin 064 was the loudest I think I've built.

@MG2186 2171 I ported is very loud also

I rebuilt a 440 for a guy and used the aftermarket open can rear with bigger outlet and DP cover and it was a loud SOB stock.

All those sound waves that damage your ears are supposed to be going the other direction to hold the back the incoming charge. I think some of this problem is due to port location on the muffler. I also think that some of these saws are now better suited for an expansion pipe.

Wonder if the triple ports are equalizing the sound waves some ? the 2 hybrids i have are ported and have triples ,and are not bad to operate without plugs in the ears .The 461 has dual port only .so all the noise goes to one side .

Quads vs duals. The pitch is different

Try a 900 series Homie geardrive maybe an old Mac like a 660 too. your Modern saws will not seem bad at all. My Mac 700 is way louder than my 10mm 044, early 046 and ported 372's and 395.
