Well the 064 is done!
Braised on the 3rd exhaust port this arvo and fitted it up.
That didn't stop the noise, it is actually bordering on painful when you open the throttle.
Definitely a hearing protection required saw!

My 066 is sitting in the corner looking nervous but I am sure when it gets the 288 piston treatment it will feel better about its self.

The bench has been cleared in preperation

Tank vents!

When it comes to saws built with a bit more "zing" can tank vents play a role in performance .
Is there a preferred vent style for 1122 saws?

1122 has lots to choose from and I've not had problems from any style.
No problem with vents and performance but fuel filters can be a problem.

There are so many fuel filter options...... I never know whats best

This 064 has a really different tune to it now at WOT
It sounds smooth. Not too lean, the burble is smooth like its in sync.
It scared me at first thinking it was running lean but then I realized it was 4 stroking but sounded different to what I was used to.

I haven't had a chance to give it a good run and tune the top end yet. Its too loud to do in suburbia
Will get it out to my parents property and get it tuned and tested next week when the rain clears up.

If you have trouble hearing it then video it and listen to it. There always fatter than I think they are.

Hey folks.
Today I dug out an old 041av to begin the birthday treatment.
Is an old one with points like an 090 has.
At first I was just going to clean it up and flip it but when I discovered a pristine motor in the inside, I felt it would be worth a bit of extra work to make a nice clean runner.

I pulled the gasket and with go gasket it has .036 squish which will be an improvement on the .060 it was with a gasket.

Timing with no gasket is 108/124/67

Trust me, I double checked it. The intake would have been 65 to 66 with the gasket.

Now here is what I plan and I would love some thoughts.

Sand .010 off the base to get squish down into the 20's and run no gasket.

Widen the intake and exhaust ports to just under skirt width (no ring pins to worry about)

Raise exhaust to 102/103
Take the transfers up to about 122/123 (original height post gasket delete.

Now..... The intake. This is where I am worried.
I need to remove .150 of material from either the piston skirt or the intake floor to get it to about 76/77*
I am considering taking half from the skirt and half from the intake floor

Thoughts on the timings and intake would be appreciated :-)

Here is something very cool about this saw.
Check out the shape and direction of the transfers.
They are like a tunnel, angled back to force the fresh charge into the back of the cylinder.
As soon as I saw these transfers I knew this old girl would be a solid runner with some porting.

041, my favorite hybernating snake displacer ;) Not a stihl guy, but really like these.

Play with the intake on these to much and they become a real pig to tune.

The bosch points ignition setup on these put out a mean spark (same as in dolmars from the same period).

Its a nice little saw.
Basically a small 076 with points.

What makes it different to other saws when it comes to intake timing mate?
