I have not found a Stihl without an adjustment on the carb until now. I want to make this thing run well for the owner but can not find an adjustment for the mixture. Anybody know? Mike

Idle is all you can adjust on most of those small homeowner saws.

I like that you are trying to be helpful. The fact is a saw or any other engine needs a certain ratio of air/fuel to run. Every carburetor is metered to give near this ratio. Somewhere in the carburetor is a jet (maybe fixed) that does this. I have been working on saws since 1986 and have fixed thousands. Sometimes I have had to buy special tools. Sometimes the adjustment screws were left hand thread. Some had a jet under a plug in the carburetor. So in recap any carb is adjustable, just how is sometimes problematic.

You will not be able to make it run richer without drilling a jet. Installing a high altitude high jet will make it run leaner, but I wouldn’t do that unless you are actually at a higher elevation.

If it runs the same type of carb as the 170/ 172, there IS no adjustment other than the idle screw which also acts as the Low needle. And yes, I have tried to drill out the plug on one to see if it there was a way…nope. Same deal with the older Shindaiwa 488 and some of their other small saws.
The 170 can be upgraded to a ms250 adjustable carb but I doubt it would work on the new 162.
