I heard when I was a kid ( 60 yrs ago ) dont go to resturants that arent busy- the best ones are always packed. I thought one of many good ways to tell who to send your saw to for porting is find out how long their wait time / list is. The guy I send mine to here on the forum in michigan is usually six monts ++ out. I think thats a pretty good sign if your looking to get one done. I am very happy with his work and post purchase help.

I go by how crowded and the demographic. Asian place full of Asians or Mexican full of Mexicans it's probably pretty good. Any restaurant full of retirees usually isn't.

I think the verdict is out haha. I read a bit about them and its 90% negative, trying to be to commercial and quality goes down it seems. At least with this kind of aftermarket chainsaw work. I will only have my saws ported by the fine folks on this here forum, or folks that have built saws I have ran.

I think that the CNC porting idea is fantastic, but it should be implemented by someone who has become an expert first at porting using the traditional methods first. It’s a little like our Franzen chain sharpener. It’s a great tool that is useless in the hands of someone who has no idea what a sharp chain looks like.

Too many people fall for the supposed “perfection and repeatability” with cnc. It’s a great idea if they actually found a good solid performing recipe.

I think it would be especially fitting for a perfectly shaped and centered exhaust port. I wonder if there is a CNC machine with a small enough head to fit into the cylinder for transfer ports.
