Hi Folks.
Looks like I have picked up a rebuild job on a 394.
Owner tells me there is a hole in the oil tank where the dog has rubbed through.
Apparently JB Weld works for a while but does not last.

Has anyone got any tips on repairing a hole in a case half...... or a decent clutch side 394 case half they would part with?

Cheers

Could you do JB weld and put a stand-off under the dog so that it can't rub the case any longer?

It might be tough since it was already JB welded, but may be worth a shot. The case half would be the right way obviously.

I dont have it yet, but my assumption is that if it keeps rubbing through, there is no bolt holding the dog off the case.

I wont make any plans untill I have it but just thought I would put out a feeler for repair techniques (TIG weld???) or the preferable option of a better case half.

A skilled welder can fix it.

Depending on location, round hole out and use an interference fit grommet?

 I have been lied too

Fits perfect though and looks good after a good tumble in my case cleaner and 3 new springs
It certainly takes up every bit of available space in the 395 clutch drum

Partner k950, jonsered 2095 are based on the 394/5 for want of a better description. Though cylinders are same for k950 & 2095 but 395 has a different footprint.

A grommet?

Duct tape?

A grommet. As in an insert made of rubber, metal etc. Perhaps even a plain old rivet. Like I said very location dependant.

Dammit! Like a welsh plug. That's the example that escaped from me.

I do repairs fir a hobby/pocket money and like to do stuff properly, hence why I asked.

The owner or the saw has been bogging up the hole but I don't like using putty for much more that thread repair on non load bearing screws or filling pitting in on a case or chain cover.

I have a mate with a Tig, but just thought I would ask the question

Myself, I would try and source a good used case half... Tig welding would be my second choice.

Sorry I don't have one to sell, or I would. :(
