I experimented with removing the clear coat from tsumura bars to see if it would reduce the running temp of the bar. It did.

That don't work with them. It just bubbles on the edge and looks burnt.

yeah the inserts throw things off - they read hot but you can hold on to them all day long


it's not a perfect science but nothing is. You can tell if the bar is running hotter or cooler. When you can hold onto the bar with bare hand after a long cut then you kinda know it worked heh

30°-40° is enough to take this test seriously. I would not have guessed the clear made that much of a difference. I have bars that the clear has worn off and have not noticed anything different, but I was not looking either.

I don't think so, I use lasers at work for reading distance. They will read off of most any surface
