I have used Remington brass with perfect success in my .257, so I see no reason why it wouldn't work in the 6mm. As you realize, when using an old school cartridge you have to make the best out of what you can get.

Remington brass isn't notorious with its quality tolerances. I agree I have used Remington and had no problems, but looking to eliminate all variables to tighten groups up with this gun.

Do Lapua or Norma make brass for this cartridge? Seems like everyone agrees that they are the best. Otherwise, I would start measuring runout and reaming necks with whatever brass is available.

I've had good results with Remington and Hornady brass.
The last bag of Winchester .243 brass I got had a few off center flash holes.
I've also loaded PPU brass in .308 but have had some issues with bullet retention.
Given the available choices, I think I'd go with Hornady.
I load it for use in my .308 bolt guns.

I don't believe Norma or Lapua make 6mm Rem brass.

Norma or Lapua does not make brass for 6mm. I think Ill order 100 pieces of Hornady.
Tried some 100gr Sierra this wknd. Not good results. Tried some 58gr Vmax. Shot well but not the objective for a 600 yd gun. Id like to find a 75 or 80 gr bullet to produce nice groups.

I would shoot an e-mail to Sierra and ask what they would recommend. They will respond to you and are very helpful. Also, what kind of powder are you using? My .257 shoots lights out with H4350. I see no reason why you couldn't get at least reasonable accuracy with the Sierra bullet, I've never seen a rifle that didn't like them.

Yea I realize that. I am just hoping to get a 75 to 80gr to put 4 shots in a hole and a half. Then again I am not claiming to be the best shot either. Eyes aren't perfect anymore. Probably from the sawdust and 2 stroke oil.

So, you are looking for something like 3/8" groups? What distance do you want to see this kind of accuracy, and are you planning to shoot anything bigger than varmints with it? A 600 yard whistle pig is certainly doable but I think that kind of accuracy at 5-600 yards is wishful thinking. Heck, I would be happy just to hit the paper at that kind of distance! You may want to start with the lighter weight slugs first and worry about the heavier ones later.

I've never fired my .257 at more than 150 yards, although I would certainly like to. For small groups at long distances with any non-magnum quarterbore, 100 grains seems to be the gold standard. I use 117 grain Sierra Pro Hunters because they still shoot under an inch at 100 yards and I think you are better off with a heavier bullet when hunting deer with the .24's and .25's.

I’m happy with 1/2 MOA to 600. After that it’s a lot harder to keep groups close depending on wind. I don’t like shooting paper much and get bored wit load developments

What’s a good round for fire forming my AI 22-250? I’ve shot a few and split the brass

Id be happy with 1/2 inch group. Right now im at 3/4. This gun is just gonna be a varmint rifle. It is pretty miserable to carry. Sling is pretty useless unless you carry it upside down.
I remember reading about fire forming with just primer or light powder load and barrel cleaning rags shoved in case. I would be interested in a 22-250 AI. I shot a .243 AI over wknd. Not sure his process, but I do know he anneals.

Seems like I remember reading that the AI rounds were designed to fireform by simply putting a standard round in the chamber and shooting it, that they were not supposed to require any fanciness beyond that?

So where is everyone ordering non hazmat items? Bullets, Brass, cleaning supplies, wads, shot, etc. Cheap or free shipping.
I am building a 6mm Rem and need brass and bullets if anyone has some to part with.
I might have several boxes of 6mm bullets I'll probably never use. I'll see what I have if you're interested.

Have you tried the 87gr. Vmax? I purchased a 1965 Win. model 70 in .243 at auction this spring. It was an original factory 1:10 heavy barrel and my gunsmith confirmed a low round count. He recrowned, bedded the receiver, and smoothed and respringed the trigger and it shoots .2's with the 87gr. Vmax and 38.5 gr. of H4895. I am getting 3160 fps with that load and have shot it out to 1100 yards. The 87 gr. Vmax is about the heaviest higher BC bullet that will stabilize in a 1:10 twist barrel.

Sierra has just come out with a 90gr. Tipped Game King that they say will stabilize in a 1:10 barrel but it would not in mine. Not even close.

Isnt 1:10 standard for the .243, and supposed to be the big advantage over the 1:12 6mm Remington? Will it not even shoot 100 grainers well enough for deer?

I bought my son a tang safety Ruger M77 in .243.
It has a 1:9 twist barrel. It shoots 100gr bullets fine but doesn't like anything heavier.
