Do these reds put to fine of a finish on cylinders, eg ring bedding?
Or is this what people use?

I don't use the exact ones you have pictured there. I know you don't want the "brown" colored ones as they are a bit aggressive. The "maroon" ones seem to be the way to go. I have the ability to use a high end Sunnen hone if I need to.

I sand at 180, 240, 400, then Maroon Scotchbrite. I don’t think it gets rid of the rough finish from sanding, it just takes the edge off of the deeper scratches. On my saws it usually takes 2-3 tanks for Cabers to really seat.

Just my experience. No idea if there is a better way.

It's usually Scotch pad greenies and kerosene .Randy of great ape fame showed a deal using an arbor and scotch brite driven by a drill motor .
One time and one time only I used a sand paper flap wheel with a large electric end grinder and in no time at all cut through the plating on a Stihl 034 cylinder .That ended me and flap wheels on cylinders .

I have used a flap wheel before.
But it was well worn with not a lot of cut left.
Wouldn't use a new one though.
