What is the proper way to replace the rope bushing on a Stihl starter housing? Basically how do you guys go about crimping it back in with out it looking hack or damaging it and having it wear the rope worse than the original worn through one? TIA
I'm not sure if it is the proper way but I did a husqvarna once by using a wooden block on the outside, a ball bearing on the inside of the housing then using a C clamp to crush the collar if that make sense?
Makes perfect sense. Was debating about doing something similar until I found the tool for $20 this morning. Now I have another tool I'll probably use less than a dozen times. But hey I'll have it...
They make this tool, I’m sure this is the one you found. It is pretty easy to make one from a countersunk socket head cap screw and a spacer. or if you have access to a lathe.
Yes that's the tool. I may try the counter sunk cap screw method while I'm waiting for it show up though. I want to use that saw this weekend but I don't want to buy another rope next Tuesday.
