My neighbor had a white oak go down. I’ve been splitting since September and the last gnarly maple just about broke me. A friend was good enough to lend me the log splitter and I used it to get through the knotty chunks.
I still have a some milling to do with some of the trunk.
You’re right, it did spoil me. I’ll say this, with the exception of the knotted and gnarled rounds, I can split faster manually. That certainly wouldn’t be the case with a fancier unit and a box or six way splitter. I can only guess what one of those Easton or other premium splitters cost. Now you're spoiled and will have to go out and fine one for yourself.
Nice saw. I have a 7910 that I love. It’s in Michigan now getting the “sausage” treatment.Nice dead standing white oak View attachment 370065View attachment 370066

It's also stronger especially when quartersawn and used to make furniture and tool handles. I used to do this as a hobby and occasionally on a professional basis. Here's a cabinet I made using quartersawn white oak:Nice, white oak doesn’t stink, like red oak.

The flat panels embedded in the doors are not plywood, but edge glued flat panels that I assembled. It was quite a project that took about six months to build. I kept it and believe me, I have no intention of ever painting it the way cabinets are made these days. I made the workbench shown in my avatar Pic also with quartersawn white oak. I loved working with it.
That wood great for smoking meatsMy kind of scrounge; show up with trailer and let tree service load me while I talk with the boss. It’s pecan. I have access to the trunk if I want to go get it
