A few weeks ago, had a cooler day so went out to cut some wood in my honey spot. I arrived and spoke with the landowner, as I always try to let him know I am there, and he told me a big red elm fell over one of his paths, and told me where it was at. I told him I'd take care of it. Well this weekend it was another cooler day, so broke out the splitter and make some nice little piles that I will go back to this fall and pick up for this winter.

Here's the oak pile.

Here's the red elm with a branch of oak that fell with it. Was some nice big rounds, and some great wood. Got a few pieces stuck on the wedge, but they were nasty crotch pieces where the grain would shift 90 degrees! Still all burns the same though. The landowner has his path opened back up so he can mow it now. :)

Had another neighbor stop and ask me if I wanted this ash cut last year. Less than a mile from the house. He is moving and wants it gone. Gotta love that.

Just picked up a ported 261c the other week. Finally got out to get a little run time on it and gathered some nice camp fire wood, of the oak kind, from the brush pile that I cut the rest of it up a while back ago. I thought it ran really well and is a good addition to the chainsaw arsenal. 20160919_193323.jpg 20160919_200342.jpg

From my previous post, I got around to hauling in the pile of red elm this past weekend. Just barely all fit on the trailer too!

If you are traveling on the road, you may want to put some horse panel on the sides like I did...see post 92. I just used tie straps to secure them. I lost a split and saw it bouncing 3-4' high in the on-coming traffic lane. It would have went through a windshield no problem if a car was coming.

They cracked down pretty hard on firewood up here. A year or three ago a person was killed by a piece that bounced out of a pickup, they were passing in the opposite direction, when it bounced out and went through the windshield.
