Reasonable price for 046R in very good condition?

That reminds of a story my dad told me. At the local flea market a guy had a basket of small toys he was selling for 25 cents each and someone grabs a toy and says "Would you take a nickel?" The seller takes the toy from the person's hand and proceeds to crush it with his foot while saying "Here's what I think of your 'nickel'."

Sounds like it was not worth a quarter either.

Well the 046 looked a little less minty in person but I bought it regardless. The saw was used by a professional as a work saw so it has a pinch of character to it, but aside from some paint chips on the front of the case it is pretty clean. I finally got a chance to run a tank through it today. The saw came with a 32" bar & full comp chain so I just ran that in some 26"-28" dry madrone logs. Boy is the 046 a torque-y sum-beach!! That saw would've gladly pulled me right into the kerf. If it pulls that hard in dead & dry hardwood then I can't wait to try it in something clean and green.

Make sure you get a screw in the top cover on the clutch side. Otherwise it will rattle and start a crack in the cover...

That was a good observation. I will never forget how I screwed up and lost a sale on a 066 because of a simple screw! About 15 years ago a local gentleman phoned me looking for a large used saw. I had a decent running 066 here that I was not using much. He said he would come out on Saturday to take a look. On Friday I took it out and ran it a bit. I then pulled the covers to clean it up a bit. When I put the top cover back on somehow I grabbed the wrong length screw for the front left hole. When the guy showed up and I went to start it it appeared to be locked up. I probably turned about three shades of white in embarrassment. He got back in his truck and left in disgust. I pulled the cover and realized what I had done. The longer screw went right between two flywheel fins preventing it from moving more than a fraction of an inch. I took it out and fired the saw up before he even made it to the highway but it was too late.
