Gonna change the rear diff oil on my sierra. Was wondering how long you guys wait to add oil and drive.
Tube says finger tighten and wait an hour to torque. Do you guys let sit for a while before adding oil and driving or just add the oil write after torquing.

Wait, maybe 30 minutes after I put one together, I never wait to torque the bolts.

Don't have a drain plug on the bottom like some of the GM diffs have/had?

What kind of rtv gasket maker you use. I picked up the permatex green tube for diffs

We use GM gray rtv at work, motoseal is about the same. Matter fact, that's what we use on everything that takes rtv.

If the fill plug is on the cover, use a siphon pump to pull it out.

Chevy/GMC Buick dealership, see more trucks and suv's, no ones buying cars these days. Staying busy doing a/c and radio/nav problems lately.

Just make sure you have a clean dry surface. There's no real pressure generated in the diff. We use the high temp red at work for coater heads in printing. Well be back in action in an hour with it under 30 psi.

I like to let it set first and then torque bolts down. Issue is that if you have a flat surface and you torque bolts down while the rtv is still wet....all it's gonna do is smear out and nothing will be on the surface...well....maybe a Tiny bit. Some diff covers have indents in them to allow rtv to stay in when torqued but not all do. So far with this method I've had no problems. Also be sparring with the stuff....More does not make it better. lol

I got it done on thursdat. Put a quarter inch bead on the habd tightened. Let sit about and hour torqued and put oil in. So far no leaks.
