@redline4 @Steve

Either of you guys ever swap out the 3.42 to 4.10 on something like my wife's 13 Yukon xl?

Steven

I have not.
I'm not sure if the carriers are different or not between the 2 gear sets due to size/thickness.

If my memory serves me correctly we did do a gear swap on a Silverado SS awd back in the day for a customer.
I believe he had programming done to correct the shift points, not sure if it recalibrated the speedometer too.
I know none of the independent shops here will crack open a diff to replace anything internal, they just change the whole thing, so finding a shop might be a battle too.
If your going in to do gears, you'd be replacing all the bearings too. While bill would likely be a couple grand.

For sure, I wouldn't want to do it any other way, I like that little tractor.
The 372's are great saws, and the xtorqs out cut the oe, and get better fuel economy all while having a much broader power band. A 572 will put the smackdown on either and the 462 is crazy light, just hope you never have a problem with the electronics on them. I have a good amount of the mtronic and autotune saws and I really like them, but I also have plenty of standard carb saws as well. I snagged up 3 standard carb saws this week and one mtronic, 2 projects and 2 runners :b1:. That 288 John posted was darn tempting, but I'm not a fan of the front tensioners so the 385/390 will have to do.
Some random burl I found on a piece of firewood I was splitting, I'm guessing it had lost a limb at one time and healed over the wound.
View attachment 255255

The 288 is one of my favorites I could see how the tensioner could be a PITA though I do like the 372 clutch design better with the screw in the side of the clutch cover. The 288 is a torque monster though a couple years back my SIL had a couple trees taken down and her stipulation for the tree guys is I got the wood. So throughout the day they used a crane and loaded the trailer for me and I ran trips back to the house, full length logs nothing special. The ground guy was cool and down to earth however the climber thought he was gods gift to cutting. When it came time to take down the trunk section he pulled a 660. That was the biggest saw they had and no others and it was sizable on the stump a good between 4 and 5 foot diameter and when it dropped it was a good 25 or so feet long pole. Being that that was the only saw they had that was big enough to handle the pole, and it was on the ground and no risk of being an insurance problem or any risky maneuvers I offered to bring in the 288 to help buck it. Being the ever so cocky individual he was he exclaimed "I don't think you could help the 660 is the best saw for this type of work and since its so expensive only a reputable company could afford one" Those are his words not mine... It was about that time that I politely offered him my opinion that number 1. A 660 really isn't all that expensive even if your a homeowner and you want a quality saw that's reliable and you use it even every weekend 900 to 1000 dollars is still a good investment for a tool that you don't want to break down and that's new and also you can find them used for far cheaper. My number 2. was that other companies also make comparable products that are just as capable in big wood or even superior to the 660 that even homeowners that are serious can own... a 394 or 395 is a prime example. Number 3 which in getting to my final point on the matter is that I had happened to be a saw collector and have the ability to repair and work on my own equipment and in doing so I happen across deals all the time that I can, and do come across these saws for very little money and I can fix and use them the example in this case was in fact my 288 that I got free. It was thought to be a dead saw and left for dead and the saw was in fact more than capable in taking on the task at hand. He accepted that I could try, but that he would probably be done before my little saw was done with the first cut...I think he heard 288 and thought that you know 660, 288 that the smaller number was in some way the size...Agian I don't know his words not mine. Anyhow I advised him that in order for this to be fair he should at the very least put on a new chain to make it fair since I did have a fresh grind on mine. In the end the 288 beat his 660 and sent it packing.:flamethrower2: Now it could very well have been the chain that did most of the work I did have full chisel and had the rakers set to .030 so I was taking a bit... but he did learn a valuable lesson as his coworkers were laughing at his misfortune... that cockiness will catch up to you. Which I was quick to educate the others that he was just wrong and that we should not be laughing at his mistake but uplifting him and that judging and misguided comments are not what the Lord would want. That is an interesting looking burl I always wanted to turn a bowl or some project from one but never see any or would even have the time lol.

That corn looks higher than last year

They planted early and some good rain hit it at the right time. Plus it helps we have some damn good soil being in the river valley.

Also from this morning not sure if that's Mars or Venus. 20200821_055942.jpg
But this picture doesn't give it justice.

What I really need is a duraburb. But that's out of my reach right now. I actually have access to all the tools and shop to do the swap properly. We have done it on a few other trucks. But nothing this new. I have a predator tuner that allowed me to adjust the shift points and helped. But it's just geared too tall. Been looking on different parts search engines for complete diffs but only 3.42's come up. Can't locate 3.73 or 4.10 options newer than '08.

Hey Chipper,

We take a few trips up north mostly South Bend or Chicago no later than Thanksgiving each year.
Been toying with nabbing up a 4 WD Suburban or GMC 1/2 ton 4dr.
What year models would you recommend...under $15-18...miles under 150K?
I would head down your way to buy a truck before I bought one up here unless it was from out of state. The Suburban was driven out here about 2hrs from us by a guy who bought it to move all his belongings with, he brought it from Oregon, here the 2010's already have rust on them and even many newer than that.
The 15-18, is that 15-1800, 15-18k is out of my shopping range:risas3:. The reality is there are many deals coming up right now on newer trucks, I just looked a a 2018 or 19 last night that was a lease and he wanted someone to take it over, total to buy it out was just over 30k if I rememberer right. I think there are a good number of people out of work who will be selling vehicles in the next few months, be patient. Another thing to consider is that time of yr many are looking to buy 4wd vehicles.

I gotcha. After further thought, muttering, and contemplation I am more inclined to the under ze $10 grand range.
I should've given greater clarity...basically just looking for decent older 4WD Burb, that enables us to drive north in the winter. Was wondering what year models were more reliable?
I learned a few things after being in the Automotive business for 20 plus yrs and that was to pass on most Northern or deep Florida vehicles!! :deal::crybaby2:

I know Richmond makes 4.10 gears for them.
You wont find anything from the factory with them. When they went with the 6 speed trans, it got taller gears in the diff's.
Fuel mileage...

You can get some nice rides for under 10k thats for sure, and I think that market will get even better in the near future. Put 10k in your pocket, the right deal will come along ;).
I don't mind a good flood vehicle, I've owned a few, but you do need to be wise about buying them. To me all the electrical and speakers are replaceable, but once they have rust on them to me they are junk, I know you can "repair" rust, but if it's where you can see it, it's also where you cant . When I search craigslist around here I search "no rust", "rust free", "out west", "down south", I'll find some sort of vehicle that's not from around here, I don't care what brand as long as it wasn't too bad of a model, heck I'm driving a ford now :D.
