I've had some stand up on me. I've done it intentionally several times what is proper protocol on that. What should you do I learned the hard way got lucky and didn't get hurt. What can you do about it. I never really think about it much now just cut it loose.... What approach do you take on that?

For the equipment needed to move that stump around I would touch it for less than2K. There is a huge amount of weight to move there. Weight isn't cheap to move when you start pushing bobcats to there limits stuff breaks fast and you can eat through 1,300 fast in repairs.

Good question,I've never cut a root ball off that big .It might be a deal if there is enough straight timber from the limbs to cut braces and shore the back of it up then once it's cut loose to jerk out the props .That or prop it up on the blade of a D7 Cat if you have one handy .A skidloader won't get it .What ever ,that thing could crush you like an egg if it gets loose .

On the root balls, I always leave a handle on them (like 10' of trunk) to push around in a circle to make sure it's broken off. I'm not going to spend a lot of time thinking about it until I know it's my job. I don't believe this one would stand up, it's too far over.
As far as lumber, oak has very little value around here. There's just too much of it for the amount that gets turned into millwork.

Ya that was not what I meant exactly, I was say if he cut it off at twenty feet he could maybe get some lumber from there up and the bottom twenty if worried about metal could be fire wooded...I see what you were saying....

Heard back from the tree quote today, the guy wants the tree cut into firewood and for me to load it into his truck and trailer. Wanted to know how much that would cost. I told him the same price. Then he started talking about how he would maybe just cut it up himself. Ok, whatever. I may hear back from him yet....

One of my customers thought they would grind out there own stumps with a rental grinder after I gave them a package deal for dropping the trees and grinding. He didn't even make it through the first stump with the rental grinder in his garage he called me back to grind the stumps out. Lots of people think this work is easy. Evening with a big saw that still isn't enough to get the job done. I bet he calls you back. I think your price is beyond reasonable.
