Base gasket just gives you a better chance of the saw not having an air leak in that area Years down the road. The clamshell saws use Dirko and many have lasted 10 years before that stuff got so hard the vacuum and pressure from the saw finally blew a hole through it. Personally I like using a head gasket....but all my saws are stock minus some small mods so....one of these days.

Of course as with all things, those different brands and models of goo gaskets are not created equal. Have ten years on one.......not certain on the dirt bikes anymore. And of course the Automotive & Motorcycle industry uses goo gaskets more than the chainsaw industry does. Although Husqvarna has in the 350 line for years. It wasn't the "goo" in the gaskets that gave up on those. It was the course threads in the early ones and the plastic intake clamps.....I hate generalities. Easy to poke holes in them.
