My refrigerator was cycling often, too often. Like every 30 minutes. The "Internet" told me it should cycle twice a day. My fridge was out, way out, of compliance. A new one is a grand. Nope, not going there, as it still does keep things cool. New thermostat? Maybe. I bought some special brushes to remove the dust off the cooling fins. No Help there.

Finally, I had a flash. I got out some rubber protectant (think ArmorAll that we use to keep our tires new looking and from cracking) and wiped the door's rubber seals. There is now some vacuum in the fridge that requires a bit more force to open and most importantly the fridge is quiet. Took me months to figure this out. Whether or not you are experiencing the same problem, you might want to do some maintenance on your fridge door's rubber. What a difference, and so easy, and so inexpensive.

Nice catch. Neighbor gave me an upright freezer that ran too much and built a bunch of frost. He had replaced it with a new one. Turns out the door was bent and wouldn't seal. Fixed it and gave it away or sold it. Don't remember.

I have a Whirlpool bottom freezer 2011. Defrost circuit does not work, or does so occasionally. I found out that if I manually defrost it about every 2 months it keeps chugging along. I keep track of refrigerator temps with an infrared thermometer and try not to get a bunch of uncontained liquid inside. When it starts running non-stop or the fridge temps rise its time to defrost.I take the bottom freezer pan out and point a fan towards the coils. The drain hole is clear as this model is known for backing up.
