Hi, trying to help out a buddy, he has a 2001 exmark with ch 26 eng. mower is in great shape,he bought it new. Has a problem with #2 coil cutting in and out. Checked all the obvious, positive wires and ground wires, coils and wiring. Traced wiring down to 24 pin Kohler ecu mounted under the mower started moving wires and it started cutting in and out more often, traced wiring harness back to coils, checked continuity from all wires to ecu. Took ecu connector apart to check all pins..none broke or loose, no corrosion. Started back up still doing same thing, took small rubber mallet and started tapping on ecu and would cut in and out with every tap. Tried to find a new ecu online, they showed them at 500.00. No longer available..found 2 used ones on Facebook groups backed out both times due to both lookin like they were scams. Has anyone seen this problem…the replacement for this model today would 16000.00 and this one is in good shape. Called many mower junkyards,no good. Found someone who said they could convert it to a carburetor instead of efi…but that didn’t pan out (another possible scam) Does anyone have any insight or knowledge with problem…..any help would be appreciated

There may be a conversion kit to convert it to older pre-ecu type cdi ignition system with new flywheel and two new coils. I'll try to look it up tomorrow when i get back to my shop. Some of the kits were very reasonably priced to convert the over and the old cdi systems were very dependable and reliable.
