Looks like a 394 - are you gonna go with one of Diamond Dave's custom pistons when he gets the next batch?
I am using one of his in my own buildoff saw, but this one is for a tree guy fella in Montana. It needed a pretty healthy going through

Advertised compression?
200 club?
Got no idea. I always figured if you needed to check compression that you didn’t have enough lol.
Actually, I have a hard time telling which tester is right or if either one is right. I have two that always read 10 to 15 psi apart, and then when the valves go bad, it’s hard to tell. So I kinda gave up on them
I’d say it’s between 190 and 220.

Far from art but this is how they all start, getting lighter buy the minute.
Not much taken out... just enough to move air along nicely. The 361 jug for clean up. Did not move any of the port heights. Most of these are near 130 or more transfers so no need to move the exhaust if your not moving the transfers. The intake was reshaped for a better aproach. Just ruffed in with a new grabby burr.
Tried some pics in the sun and in shade. 20200308_171752.jpg 20200308_171907.jpg 20200308_171955.jpg 20200308_172008.jpg

Might use one smaller burr than finish with a stone ball and hard rolls. My pics may suck let me know if they do. I try....
20200308_171741.jpg 20200308_172459.jpg 20200308_172427.jpg 20200308_172601.jpg 20200308_172102.jpg

The floor is barely touched in the exhaust. Transfer divider needs to be thined a bit. This burr won't fit. Took back the bump near the port entry for improved flow. Not much just a bit all the way across. Needs to be blended at the corners and down to the port.

The intake port was just reshaped from the boot to the bottom corners. Casting flash was also removed before today. The corners were not raised or widened. These intake windows are plenty from the factory. The boot is the choke point in there.

Is it my phone or does that cyl-ie have a bunch of pitting in the plating?
The new meteor piston came in today so I pulled the cylinder back apart to make some timing changes if needed and I wanted to look at what we were seeing in those pictures just to make sure. The piston pic is so the owner knows it’s running a 395 piston, as it was before. The intake has been cleaned up since I posted the original pics, but I didn’t post an intake picture earlier as I wasn’t done with it yet. I don’t believe there’s any pitting at all in it, pretty sure it was just dust off the paper towel. Like I said, these are immediately after pulling the cylinder off and putting the new piston on. I didn’t touch anything inside with a rag, just to be able to see what we were looking at. Thanks for bringing it up though. There can definitely be things hiding out inside that you can’t see with the naked eye, but can focus and zoom in on with the camera :beer-toast1:

Looks good.

So your going to be running a 395 piston in a 394, correct?

#metoo. Has to do with ring pin location.

Looks awesome, as usual. Countless times I’ve thought I had a great cutter filed just right to post a pic of. Zoom in with my camera, snap the pic then look at it and see all kinda wrong. :nut:
Made me wonder because I have a 394 cyl here with damaged plating. A bunch of little circles missing but wouldn’t really call it pitting. :nusenuse:

10-4. Not sure about the compression height, but the ring pins are over the intake rather than the corners and I believe the skirt is just a hair shorter on them

Honestly, we as saw nuts probably think too hard about this stuff. Little pick marks out in the middle of the bore probably don’t hurt anything except for a little compression. Totally different scenario though when you have bad areas above and below the transfers and exhaust that might peel away
