I use metal piton stop on disassembly when I know piston is getting replaced. Not on reassembly use rope ?
Of course the piston stop was a freebie used rope prior to that.

I let him know what Stihl said and told him if he felt I was somehow at fault I would send him a replacement.
With the piston in hand the guys in the parts and service departments were pretty evenly split on the whole piston stop vs. spark plug electrode controversy.
I am leaning a lot more towards the piston stop theory because, as a few guys mentioned, if the electrode was touching the piston at TDC I can't imagine you could pull it fast enough to fire it off.
thanks for the opinions guys
Dave

couldnt be the plug. i think the elastic start handle rubber bushing would have broke before it knock a hole like that in the piston. and by the way this is going on the shop wall lol
Only reason I say that is because I may or may not have done that once in my youth.
Plug out of a motorcycle leaves a mark just like that.

CCSI Chainsaw Crime Scene Investigation- I'd watch it.

Ole Emu legs would be the aged yet distinguished crew leader.

Def Dave would be there for comedic relief and sweet hair.

Brad would need some boobs, but he'd fill the token girl slot with a little work.

Saw troll could be the old Ans I mean old azz medical examiner ...er Stihl Gold tech.

It would be a toss up between Jacob J or Scarr to be the edgy yet brilliant analyst, but I'd allow them to roshambeaux or rock scissors paper to decide the winner.

Did I miss anyone?

You can always justify another saw.

Dave, my vote is the piston stop. You should replace his entire saw. Or just tell him what we're all thinking. GFY!

Ask the *dipstick to explain exactly how you are at fault. So you can prevent this from happening again.

I did knock a hole exactly like that with a spark plug but it could have been a piston stop but I figure he thinks he done no wrong because the plug hit it.
