Just remember boys and girls......big brother Stihl is well aware of each and every time the MS500i is hooked up for a reset. I got in a bit of hot water over resetting one I'd imported from Europe.

Hot, like in your sweat lodge?

Manufacturers are tracking more and more things these days. The Stihl program no doubt connects to a mainframe somewhere at a Stihl facility and gives them the same (and possibly more) info on whatever is connected to their system.
It's pretty crazy what the auto manufacturers are doing these days, and I'm guessing the outdoor power equipment is simply following suit due to the expanding rules, regulations and technology.

Because it was from Europe I’m assuming?

and yes…it wasn’t available in the USA at the time…

I would not of figured, chainsaws were track-able by the mother ship. I'm kind of stuck in the 90's still.

Almost makes me not want the 500i...lol. I hate proprietary bullcrap.

But, I think it's worth the risk and money to fix it.

Where would you put them on a reliability scale from 1-10? (And what saw gets a perfect "10"?)
I don’t think anything is a perfect 10 because they all break but personally the Stihl 460,461,066/660,026,261 along with the 346,372 oe and 395 husky are in that 8 range and I hope that some of the newer ones like the Stihl 400,462 and 500 along with the husky 550 and 572 will be in the same class when they’ve proven themselves a bit longer. I know Stihl better because most of the local pros run stihls but husky has some real good models too.

Out of about 100 of them that I've done, one suffered a module failure. That's it.
That’s a good track record actually local tree guys up to 4 now and 3 462’s so I think the fleet of 362’s is probably getting retired and sold

Wow. And when was the 500i released to the US? 2020? If so, that's pretty good considering the abuse I'm sure some of those have taken.

I'm sure I'm not going to get feedback on every saw I send out, but I usually hear about any the suffer any type of serious failure.
