This will be a fun saw for sure:)
I used the modded but stock shape muffler
filled it with Lucas semi-synthetic at 32:1
roller nose and 20" machine ground jimmy cole square chain
3/8" 10 pin Dansco
cutaway clutch-cover
stock walbro oem carb with 1 turn out on H and L
no air filter or covers and the flywheel has no cooling fins
New stock MS660 piston and impulse, fuel line, oversize fuel filter, coil

gave it a little fuel in the carb and it coughed in the garage so I grabbed the chaps and took it out back to see it run for the first time - good thing I filmed it :)

Yeah I had to pull a few times for it to start :(

About a third of the way into the cut it just started sliding through the wood, like I was holding it back and it just wanted to eat, probably leaning out....
Obviously more to get sorted out and it isn't locked up but feels like it has less compression than before it ran.

Road trip tomorrow and maybe Friday I will sell a few saws.
Nobody here even wants any saws right?

I tried to Stuff it back in but the head was too hot to touch... and the muffler? fahgedaboudit

Actually the service showed up to spray the lawn right as I was watching the smoke, so I packed it up for the day

So I just check compression since it pulled over so easily, this aint lookin goodIMG_4019.JPG IMG_4020.JPG IMG_4021.JPG IMG_4022.JPG IMG_4023.JPG
Plug dry and red, muffler soaking wet, bottom end plenty wet, compression nil, piston top before and after a wipe with a soft cloth
cylinder and piston and rings look fine
where did my smoke go?

took a peak at the cylinder base at the suggestion of another saw guy and found some disturbing things
the bolts they used to hold on the cylinder are slightly oversized compared to the base gasket
they may have used a crappy helicoil or something because I fished these out of the threads in the case and it looks like several are still on the bolt

There's probably room enough in the pockets of the case under where the threads come out to wedge in some anchor nuts. I had to do that on a 372 that I had the deck machined down on so I could use a different top end.

they will get thread certs tomorrow
hopefully I wont have to do nuts below but there is room at least on the flywheel side if they are needed
the line is just a line I checked with a pick when I couldn't feel anything by hand
I also thought I did a better job cleaning up the 518 when I removed it to add the base gasket, I need better light and better eyes
