Picco vs 325 chain for limbing

I expect that the lower profile cutters, combined with the smaller pitch chain ( cutters per inch) gives it certain advantages over 3/8 low profile ('Picco') chain.

Have to see when it becomes available.

OK, somebody has to get a loop of this stuff so we can take a look at it. I wonder how different it is to .325 NK.

Different enough that Oregon says this further down that page:

80TXL must be used together with the corresponding guide bar and sprocket and are not compatible with other existing cutting systems.

Yeah, I was trying to point out the narrow kerf options. Several smaller bars in 3/8 low profile and 1/4". I am not sure that I even like 1/4" on pole saws, but that would give the smoothest cut.

Again, might want to go with a smaller saw for balance, etc.

It's like a NK chain lead to a 325 explosion. I bet dealers are ecstatic they now have to carry a bazillion different types of chain
Having said that, NK AKA LP(another thing is the name convention hasn't settled yet), works fantastic on 30-40cc saws, and likely on 50cc saws, too. If I can, I stick with standard 325 mostly because it just lasts longer, and needs sharpening less often.

It may also be due to the smaller bars. 3/8 LP is still a long chassis even if it isn't very demanding. LP going around the tip on teeny tiny bar is asking for heat and snagging and kick back.

Some chains are Narrow Kerf and Low Profile (e.g.Oregon Type 90)!

The chain choice pool is almost as deep as the mix oil/bar oil pool. I have a 1/4 rig on a rear handle 200 and it is glorious for anything under 8 inches or so. Gotta keep it tight, tangs on DL are pretty shallow. 80 DL on a 16" bar vs 60 on a 3/8 Picco. Talk about smoooth !

Maybe? I'd walk a mile for a sharp chain though... They only make it in semi chisel so that helps too.

I love the smoothness, control & precision of 1/4" chain I run it on my rear handle ms150. But its expensive and not the best value due to the itty bitty cutter lengths that don't offer many sharpening. Big +1 on someone getting a loop of Nano .325 and putting some veneer calipers on it and a bar to get a gauge of its efficiency potential. 325 is IMO a better pitch to make LP & NK chain.

OK I finally swapped the 241's default 6 pin sprocket for the 7 pin from GlocknStihl and it's way better. That extra bit of chain speed seem to help a lot. I was also making sure to use full throttle.

It's not quite as happy with the 14" bar burried in Oak now..... but I'm fine with that. I have other saws for bigger wood. But for stuff in the 6" range, hot damn it slices through like butter.

My current chain is Picco PM. I have a PS on order at my local dealer. I'll report back after get that as well.
