I have both .325" & 3/8" on my 50cc's, Dolmar PS-5105 & Makita EA5000.
The 3/8" is a tad bit much and I may just swap it for .325".
No rush though as I rarely use my 50cc's.

My 56cc , Dolmar PS-550, runs 3/8" and she does so very well.
She has become my small & mid size workhorse and impresses me anew every time I attack a bigger job with her.

My 46cc's, Dolmar PS-460 & PS-4600S, are set up with .325" and it suits them well.

50cc is my main use size. "Tractor saw". Not a lot, but enough for most stuff I run into. The bigger saws do the bucking and felling of stuff over 18" or so. Did recently do a little noodling with my 501 Echo unit. Borderline abuse by my own measure but the trailer wasn't full yet and it was all I had with me.

A "logger" once abused my EA5000XS with 20"/72DL 3/8" full chisel for noodling bar fully buried - and he utilized the dual bucking spikes dogging her without mercy.
I yelled at him to stop raping my saw - he just replied "Why? She is doing well!".
He only got to her because I was noodling with my PS-7900 & 36" B&C setup and my EA5000XS was sitting in the shade cooling down after numerous bucking cuts.
The moment he stopped I took the saw from him and locked her in my car.

Idiot was running a MS661 with 18" B&C setup "professionally"!
He never saw a 36" bar till I pulled my PS-7900 wearing one out of my car.

I made those cuts as gently as I could. It's northern white oak, so pretty stout wood. The little Echo never complains it seems. I like that saw a lot even though it is certainly not the fastest 50cc out there, or the fastest I own for that matter. They're just good saws.

I'm not sure how I'd react to someone else whoopin on one of my saws. Only a couple of people that are ever allowed to use them.

I did not intend to imply anything on You.
I noodle a round or two with my smallest saws if the occasion calls for it - though as You say, I do so with a little bit of common sense.

My point being was the logger in question most likely just raw dawgs all and any cuts running a 90cc PH with a tiny 18" B&C setup - he was not gentle with my EA5000XS nor did he ask permission to use her, that really pissed me off.

There are less than a handful of people that I would grant access to any of my saws and one of them is in the US, neither of them is my dad.

Chain speed is not king, contrary to widespread belief.

Maybe Your Echo 501 is like my Dolmar PS-550, noticeable torque advantage over minor speed loss - makes for a stout hardwood saw.

The Echo can be dogged 30% more than a Mki 550 without hanging, I can tell you for sure.
