C-clips can come loose, especially when not assembled correctly. I recall last year finding a small machine screw in the case of a Stihl MS362, right below the crankshaft. It was supposed to be used with the ignition module and was missing there. The saw's owner had given me the saw to fix, obviously after some other mechanic gave up. While putting it back together, he dropped this small screw into the case after the cylinder was removed. That's the only way it could have gotten there.
The amazing thing to me was that the saw got put back together again rather well. It had to have been taken almost entirely apart. That's the way that the 362 is built, a far cry from the 361. In some respects, working on a 362 is even worse than working on a clam shell.
BTW, this same 362 runs today after I rebuilt the top end. It's not easy, but it can be done.
