Ditto to you Scotty, I'm impressed! Love the large pieces at the base of your fire place.

Our Stone came out of Yonkers Quarry, no longer in operation. My friend Harold knew how to do it, and taught me. Harold's work is excellent. While we were doing it, the guy who sold us the stone (part of the family that owned Yonkers Quarry) brought his brother and father over to see what we were doing, and they offered Harold a job on the spot.

I kinda got into doing it too, Harold got a real kick out of it. We did not have carbide tools, we sharpened out chisels and pitching tools on the grinder a bunch! All done over a long summer, evenings, weekends, and a few weeks of vacation time. It consumed us every day, and I missed bow season that year.
Yes it consumes your life for sure! I literally didn't have enough skin to see my fingerprints on my fingertips for months....
All of my stone came from the mountains surrounding our little town, I hauled a lot of them out in my hunting pack, and I can't tell you how many loads of stone I hauled off those mountains in the bed of my old Ford Ranger. I ran the wheels off of that poor truck, scrapped it afterwards.

Not to derail, but this is the fire block I built with Bluestone (left over from the quarry operations on my upstate property). My old wood stove has since been replaced with a Natural Gas unit.

The cabin I built in the Catskills is in an abandoned Bluestone Quarry. There were tons of stones that "were not good enough" for them!

I haven't donated yet either, so cool if people want to wait for 10K. Missed a lot of word due to back to back to back illnesses so checks have been smaller than normal. Should be able to send something in a week though. More so hoping that @jk14 and @hseII have luck with the Echo 750. I know they are putting a lot effort into the old saw.
