The idea is a motor and boat small and light enough to stick in the bed of a truck and haul ass to the lake for the weekend. No drama....just a weekend of fishing.

Dats what I'm talk in about!
Cooler, fishin rods n tackle box. Coleman stove. Coleman lantern. Sleep in bag and a fold up chase lounge. Maybe a tarp.

Used to put a 12' tin boat in the back of a 69 GMC van and go somewhere every weekend.

Dads old Sears 14' v bottom in the back of his 67 Dodge long bed.
Later, I made it a trailer and put a 1963 Evinrude 18 hp "fastwin" on it. Pulled it with my 1983 Ferd Ranger. That old boat saw things. Mostly young *pretty boyes being *pretty boyes.
Got my little 1973 Ranger 2 bass boat and put the v bottom back on pond duty. Some SOB stole it from the watershed lake we had it stashed at.

My nieces husband didn't tell me his neighbors
Pontoon boat was for sale
I've tried to buy it for year's.
Fully functional with 16ft with a running evenrude 9.9 maybe a deck board to replace.
800.00 damn dollars
He may or may not get his 028 super back that I'm fixing.

That is just wrong. Those little "pond toons" are great.
We had a 24' several years ago when the kids were home. Ours and his "entourage" would take the jet ski out. The pontoon was home base. Good times.
Bosslady is having a little trouble getting on and off the 18' bay boat, so I'm thinking about another pontoon this fall when the summer users get hard up for money and the prices are more gooder.

Miss that Ranger 2.
Was 14'-6" long. About 4' beam. 40 horse Johnson that I cleaned the points on when I bought it and never touched again. Had two swivel seats set just right. One front. One back. Dual livewells made into the seat bases. Stick steering from the front seat with a Minn Kota 525 foot control trolling motor. Perfect boat for one man to take out. Motor to your spot. Cut the gasser. Drop the trolling motor. Grab a rod from the rod holder. Fish. Never leave your seat. Catch one you want to keep? Spin 90 degrees, lift the lid on the live well, drop that sucker in, drop the lid, spin back around, catch another one. Never seen another one of those. I was an idiot for selling it, but the Ranger dealer here wanted it BAD.

Stick steering boats used to be common .
Sitting forward you could see stuff in a tight log infested area, they tended to turn on a dime .
The 40 was a workhorse lower rpm motor that lasts.

Looking at boats is a bad addiction, you always want one more just a little different than the last.

I still want to build a little wood boat like i fished as a kid 50 yrs ago.

Yep. Id have a yard full if I had the time and money to use them. Hard to beat that little Ranger. Only thing Ida changed would be give it power tilt so I coulda let it up when I needed to without getting up. Still see some stick steers around, just no Rangers.

Used to run down to the Raysville bridge and bass fish about midnight Friday and Saturday night when we were camping. Was about a 3 mile run in the dark. River had lots of logs, shoals, and sandbars.
We just got out far enough to Port to see the reflection of the tree line on the water, turned off all the nav lights, and let er rip. Had enough moonlight most nights you could see if anything was in the water breaking the surface. Also far enough out to miss the shoals and bars.
Coming back was same, just get Starboard enough to be away from the reflection of the tree line, and go WOT til you saw the lanterns at camp.

Rangers used to be great hand layed glass boats.
Mr Wood knew his stuff.
Your model Ranger was a popular hull and good fishing platform.

Fished a little river boat that used to be built in Metter.
Narrow in the stern then wide square front 12' long.

From the stern you could paddle with one hand and pitch with the other.
Classic Ogeechee river boat.

Been through Metter quite a few times. Still remember listening to Michael Guidos "seed from the sower". Bit like Paul Harvey. Used to love to listen to "the rest of the story".
Bet that woulda Been a good little boat with that 3 horse on it. That way, if you got into a honey hole, you could motor back up and anchor out.
