The 257/262 I built is near stock 266 strong
And has a quicker throttle response
I was really impressed I've never owned the sub 66cc 2 series
I'll be using my mastermind 2171 this fall it's the lightest ported saw I have.
I've probably built 50-100 chainsaws from scratch, mostly 242, 346, 550 class, a little 357, 254, 262.
And rarely 372 and 560.
Quality varies depending on how much I've put into it, porting is wood porting I do, so not a pro.
Now, I just try to build for myself, and put significantly more into it these days.

My 346xpg build that is not quite finished (missing xpg flywheel) was the generator, carburetor (most likely), gas tank and a couple of other parts that were used parts, the rest is NOS.

This project is a 357, I'm building it for summer bucking, and will try 372 xtorx bearings in it. It all started with me getting a tank and top cover for a symbolic price. Right now I'm trying to find parts, new, used, and see how the project comes together.

I've been lucky and had a mechanic who helps me out with a lot of parts at spot prices.

I've always wanted Walbro's service tool kit, and today I remembered and ordered one.
Unfortunately, there is a 564 xpg ordering bug in Husqvarna's system, at least as of today it is not possible to pre-order the chainsaw.

It's always fun to look through NOS parts to put together a 346 and a 357 since they share some parts, so in the 346 intake parts I found three top cover clips, so I don't have to buy them! And 5 black 357 filters were there too.

I bragged about finding things I knew I had, that's true, but it took me 3 hours to find the package of 357 air filter holders, even though I had observed it several times tonight!

Right now I feel as old as Randy Evans minus the nice legs he has.

My world famous legs are indeed a wonderous thing to behold.

I've fixed or rebuilt most everything since the 80s lots of homelites back then
A fuel line or coil and back in business I never had to replace a carb on anything until worse and worse unleaded fuel came around
Too many additives I guess.
My oldest brother ran 1 and 2 series logging
He had a couple of either 266 268 272s
I don't remember but ran 181 281 288s with 24" bars for most everything.
He had a 064 for awhile he just liked the Husqvarna's speed.
Oddly he ran alpina mini mac copy's climbing tree's.
He climbed for outfits and cut timber for everybody before starting his own business.
When the 3 series came out he had the first 371xp i ever ran but he mostly the 394s for many years until the 395s came out.
I worked on most of the little 3 series but wasn't impressed at all
Only ever owned 371/372s
I'd just as soon run old super xls as run the little 3 series
They had more torque.
I owned a carbed 261 and fixed a 550 and couldn't believe how gutless they are but I've never ran a ported 261 or 5 series anything.
Really no desire to get anything new but I'd like to try the 564xp
We had bad storms a few years ago and the asplundh guys had ms250s and 455 rancher's trying to cut 36"+ tree's out in front of my place I cut out the big stuff with my ss266xp they couldn't believe a little saw would cut like that the zcs ported 372s are way stronger but I prefer the ported 266/268/272s
Neighbors swear by battery saws maybe that's the future for homeowners.

Good morning folks,
I'm going to clean out the small desk, do the half-yearly accounts for the farm.
A little project sorting is also needed, now that it's overflowing it's time to get the low-value items out to the barn.

I like to get my hands on and rebuild chainsaws, diagnosing the problem is probably what caught my interest.
I avoid hobby saws and Stihl, but have a couple from my neighbor that I have to do, plus 2x026 that are mine.
So far, and at my age, there are good opportunities for me to avoid clones, it's not that I'm snobbish, I feel that there are more than enough faults on Husqvarnas without me having to open a can of other problems.

If it weren't for the fact that Husqvarna parts prices have gone up, I would have built up a larger parts stock for 346 and 357, in retrospect I really regret not building up more for them when they were normal prices, and the same goes for 242/246.
These three classes have become very rare to pick up.

I was on my way to 40 chainsaws in the 40-72 class, and my goal is to get rid of semi-pros like 42's etc

I also believe that batteries will become the thing for hobby use, and they will never become dominant for professional use.
But I think that both Husqvarna and Stihl will offer both batteries and fuel for professionals.

Good morning guys. Another bike ride in this morning. The new bike hauls azz. Hopefully the rain will hold off for the ride home. Stay safe and stay cool folks.

I've got today off. Just fixing to unload mine for a day of riding around with my parents and some friends.
