I hand a friend who had a Benign tumour in the end of his index finger. He couldn’t use it and it got in the way.
He saw a few docs over a yr or more. They all wanted to see if and how it grew. He got so pissed about it. He said to the last doc, “if you don’t do it soon, I will do it”

I don’t think the doc believed him.

well, he looked it up on the net. Next thing he made a little box for his finger. And used a 2” chisel and a mallet.
Smoked lots of weed. Then cracked the mallet.
There were a few things he did wrong. Ie not having anyone around, as he could have fainted etc. He did call the ambulance, but was in shock as well.
The other thing was how and where he chopped it off. If it was done right he,d have 1/2 an index finger but now he’s got a nub.

one other thing, I said he was in shock. While on the phone to the ambulance peeps they got him to pick up the finger and bring it with him.
While in the hospital, they said we’re gonna send you off to another hospital so they can fix it back on.
He then said, ahh I don’t want that thing back on it’s got a tumour in it.
That’s when they realised it wasn’t an accident.
They then made him speak to a psychiatrist to make sure he wasn’t going to chop anymore fingers off.

And that’s a true story ..

Tell me more about this box.....

Tell me more about this box.....
It was more like a guillotine, and the chisel was held in place so he could put his finger in then rest the chisel on top and smack it with the mallet with his other hand. He said it went easy,
The other thing he said was not pulling enough skin back to where he chopped it. The skin rolled back and then there was not enough skin to wrap round the end that’s why he ended up with a nub as the bone had to be cut back so there was enough skin.
I will find a pic he posted and a link to where he posted it.

I got a new helmet.
How do you like it Ryan?
They give us the same at work but with a clear plastic visor for splash protection. Few of us have changed the ear-muffs out because they are only wired to one ear, we've grafted our old peltors on for dual mono comms.
It never seems to have enough 'peak' to me also compared to a more traditional hard hat for a non-climbing application.
