So it kinda seems to me like this thread has/had a bit of a hurt feelings problem rather than an actual politics problem.
I tend to agree with the sentiment that it is retarded to get bent about that sort of thing. The people that are being discussed don’t give a good Goddamn about us common peons. Actually I take that back. I don’t think I’ve ever seen actual retards arguing about politics.
I’m of the further opinion that the group here does a pretty good job of self moderation. Folks you cannot control what other people think about you, but you can control your own thoughts, feelings, and reactions. I typically try and choose to look for the best in everyone and give them the benefit of the doubt. Sometimes that takes a monumental effort, and sometimes I fail outright. In other words we are all human, we are all fallible, and we all have our own private battles…. Maybe choose to be kind.
We are all here because of a common interest in OPE. It seems like this place is the coolest when we stick to that and shoot the shít about life in general in our own sliver of the world. But at the end of the day though fellers this is your forum and thread and we aren’t twisting any ones arm to be here. Several of you made some good suggestions. How do you want me to manage the political stuff? Seems to me like a simple apology would go a long way after a perceived misstep?
It seems to me that oftentimes a simple apology doesn't work because the offended person has just pulled up stakes and left
Maybe they are lurking, waiting for an apology, or a change in the tone of the thread, or whatever and if they see that they might come back
If someone thinks they need an apology then I guess they should state their case and see if the other feller can be the bigger man
This brings me back to my earlier statement that I really don't want to have to stop and think, and analyze every little thing I fire off from the hip
I can be a snarky *a-hole at times, but it is generally in search of a laugh, not hoping to demean or diminish someone
In my mind we just came out of a very dark 4 years that almost saw this great nation reduced to a state of thought and speech police that centered on a tiny fraction of the population
When the people that I believe would right this wrong were elected by a majority of this country I was, and am, overjoyed
I stated as much for the first couple of days after the election because I had been holding my breath that we would lose, and our fates were sealed
I think of the folks on here as rugged, chainsaw toting, hard working, boot wearing, individuals that are concerned about life, liberty, feeding their families, and speaking their minds
I don't think of them in terms of Right, Left, Republican, Democrat, etc, just people who would rather have a strong and free America where we don't have to bow down to "Identity Politics"
If I was wrong about that then I am in the wrong place
If speaking my mind means offending and alienating a large proportion of the folks here than I am in the wrong place
If the majority wants a sanitized version of the NSP rough and tumble banter and buffoonery then I will gladly close my account and leave the thread and the forum to the majority
I never intentionally mean to hurt anyone nor do I intend to single anyone out unless we are in the middle of a round of what I always thought was good natured ribbing and ripping on a topic
I am more likely to make fun of myself than make fun of another person
As several have pointed out, nobody is held here against their will nor do they have to participate
Just let me know if this is going to continue to be the rough and tumble, no holds barred, rip em and get ripped funfest it was meant to me or if we are going down snowflake lane
I will respect the will of the majority and base my actions accordingly
