There are things that can be done to improve oil pressure and make the 400 live a long life. After all.....its just a stroker 351 Cleveland.
Very interesting. Could have saved a few trips to the dump back in the day.
One thing I would like to know, now that we're on the subject out of curiosity's sake. When I used to look at the engine detail decals on the valve cover, it always said 351M-400. How were you supposed to tell which one it was? To be honest Back then I didn't really care, it still went to Ed's zip line place.
With the 202 camelbacksThey were all 400's..
Just like every clown who swapped a 350 into something got it from a Corvette..
I’ve had more than a few fellas try and tell me that they have a 360 or 390 or 401 AMC in their Jeep - until I look at the block: the cubic inches are cast into the side. Most of them are 304’s, and you can’t bore a 304 to become anything larger without getting into the water jacket. I made one guy real mad one time when he swore that his Jeep was a 401, but was actually a 304. He had been took by the last guy, and was trying to turn a profit. When I educated him, his face turned red..They were all 400's..

Vary same reason you can’t just take a 390 and make a 427 even if you don’t hit water jacket they usually are so thin they split after they’re put together. A few here and there will work for it long as sonic checked, measured and made sure they don’t have to much core shift. Wasn’t many large cubic inch engines on the 60’s that could turn 7000 and survive but supposedly the 427 with the lemans rods could run that and live.I’ve had more than a few fellas try and tell me that they have a 360 or 390 or 401 AMC in their Jeep - until I look at the block: the cubic inches are cast into the side. Wtf lol
...and everyone with a Ford Truck that came with a 360 said it was a 390.They were all 400's..

I still miss AMC's being around.I’ve had more than a few fellas try and tell me that they have a 360 or 390 or 401 AMC in their Jeep - until I look at the block: the cubic inches are cast into the side. Good day my Kiwi friend.Morena E Hoas.
Me too. They’ve become my favorite engine to build. Their biggest drawback, is the timing cover mounted distributor. But that’s really the only complaint I have about them. Their high nickel blocks wear very little, and with factory forged cranks in the larger CI engines, they are a very stout base. And pedestal mounted rockers are way stronger than Chevy’s design, and easier to work on than the shaft systems of Mopar and Ford....and everyone with a Ford Truck that came with a 360 said it was a 390.

So, top it off and send them on their way?This truck was here on Monday for an oil change because the people are leaving for Arizona on Sunday.

Evidently even glancing at the transfer case isn't part of the multi point inspection.
Hey boss.Good day my Kiwi friend.
@dallthe shaft
The 400 has a 4" stroke. The 351M has a 3.5" stroke. No viable way to tell the difference that I'm aware of.One thing I would like to know, now that we're on the subject out of curiosity's sake.
