That seems pretty nasty, but I'm not looking at these things all the time either. Is that normal for those?
Pretty normal for many direct injection engines. Newer generations have gone back to some fuel being added in the intake tract to keep the valves clean. Most of that buildup is from oil vapor

What’s the metal it’s burning onto the valves

It's chunks of leftover critter leavings that fell in the port.

I try to get it all out with compressed air before lifting the intake, but sometimes it's just a stubborn biotch and waits to fall in..

View attachment 433294Life lesson learned on my Heavy Chevy last week with a dead battery. Put a jump box on it and just cranked and cranked. Pulled and checked fuses, just cranked. After an hour she finally lite up. Engine service light, trans not shifting right, and acceleration was weak. After an hour runtime it cleared up. Changed out the battery today and put a powered hot box into the OBDII connector. Swapped out the $280 battery and no errors or issues. I think I'll keep these in the glove box. Thank you General. Way to keep it interesting. LOLView attachment 433291View attachment 433292

It ain't no damn Komatsu. Our controllers go into hibernation mode on low voltages.
I got lucky, supposedly one of our other 1500s needed reflashing on trans and engine ecm.
I know it not of intense of thread as Ed. But I thought I would share.😵‍💫😵‍💫

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not advocating that he was the greatest dude on this forum, I’m just curious as how/why he ghosted the place.

I never figured you were advocating for him. I was simply agreeing with Adam.
Maybe he met Duratec and they went straight together.

I'm also in the middle of getting a 10 speed out of a Cadillac CT5. It sounded like a wood chipper with kids chucking rocks into it.
The idler gear for the oil pump failed and is eating on the front case cover. Worst one I have seen. Usually they just make a whining noise similar to a supercharger.

I never did catch his real name. You think he started that wildfire?!

To add some perspective to this mystery: Jugs and I had a 26 page direct message that we talked back and forth on almost daily for a while. He was really getting into logging with that Timberjack he bought and he had questions, I had answers, and it continued from there about other logging related topics. The last time he messaged me was Feb 18th, 2024. I checked in on him 10 days later without a reply. Again a month later, asking how his Lymes was doing. Again no reply.

I know he was obnoxious in this thread, and even abrasive to some of you, but my opinion is that he was trying a bit too hard to fit in. He wasn’t that way at all in our PM. If I remember right, he’s 10-12 years younger than me.

Anyway, don’t mean to ramble, but I’d like to find out why he just ghosted this site, and Forestry Forum, without warning.

26 page, almost daily PM's, and you did not even know his first name.

You just give out handy's without even being on a first name basis. FFS
