Glenda's sister has a whole house unit that runs off of a buried propane tank.
So yeah, a buried tank is not an option

Even if I bought my own tank they wouldn’t fill a buried tank

Like so many other things up here, it’s an earthquake thing

But a propane unit might still be the best option as long as the boss doesn’t object to a tank in the yard

We shall see

You seem to have the money so why not a whole house generator?
This. I would have gone this route, but we are still planning to move 1 more time. Highly recommend this option.
Calcification and tendonitis in my achilles tendon. Sinus infection. Upper respiratory infection. Blood pressure is entirely to high....
All that from a sperm sample? 😳
Edited to add, I should come at it from the standpoint of it being automatic and her not needing to do anything in case I am not here when the power goes out
Bingo. And the good ones self-test once a week for 20 minutes or so. You literally do nothing and you always have power.
That’s a thought although I’ve never seen a buried propane tank in Alaska
If it’s buried, how would you see it?

They are all over up here. Prepping is a big deal to some people.

If I can’t get it filled then burying it is pointless
How cold does it get by you? At -44 and below, propane no longer works, as it’s too cold to turn from liquid to gas. It’s happened here before, in south eastern Minnesota, where people lost heat and had to place tarps over the tanks and place heaters underneath to warm the tanks up enough… I guess what I’m saying is, if it gets that cold, or colder, an above ground tank won’t help you either..

Up here the prepping crowd doesn’t much care about hiding stuff

Their only concern is that you can easily see the signs that say “If you can read this then you are within range” with a picture of a scope reticle at the bottom

It doesn’t get that cold ambient temp wise except maybe once every few decades

Windchill will get below that but that doesn’t affect propane flow

We have the same signs here - my wife’s grandmother has it placed at the end of her gravel driveway.

Sounds like it would be a great idea to invest in a stationary, whole house unit powered by propane then.
